SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
JAMES CAREY ESQUIRE
A JURAT OF THE ROYAL COURT DURING THE PERIOD OF 55 YEARS
WHO DIED FEBRUARY 12TH 1845 IN THE 77 YEAR OF HIS AGE
HIGHLY ESTEEMED
AS THE ACTIVE AND ABLE PROMOTER OF EVERY PUBLIC MEASURE
WHICH WAS CONDUCIVE TO THE IMPROVEMENT
AND HAPPINESS OF HIS NATIVE LAND.
HE WAS DEPUTED IN THE YEAR 1821
TO DEFEND THE PRIVILEGES OF THE ISLAND
BEFORE THE LORDS OF HIS MAJESTY'S PRIVY COUNCIL
AND TO HIS ZEAL AND JUDGEMENT, HIS COUNTRYMEN ARE CHIEFLY INDEBTED
FOR THE COMPLETE SUCCESS OF THEIR CAUSE.
HIS MEMORY WILL BE EVER DEAR
TO HIS FAMILY, HIS FRIENDS AND TO THE COUNTRY WHICH HE SERVED
SO LONG AND SO FAITHFULLY.
